The Labour Market in RAK

The Labour Market in RAK

2009 Estimates from the UAE Ministry of Economy put the current population of Ras Al Khaimah at approximately 241,000. Of that, the majority live in urban areas (Ras Al Khaimah City), and the remainder live in small settlements/rural areas. While more than 80 per cent of the UAE population is made up of foreign guest workers, in RAK the number is lower, with UAE Nationals accounting for about 40 per cent, which means better labour stability and better availability of university-educated workforce. Unemployment stood at around 6.7 per cent in 2008, as opposed to around 4.0 per cent in the UAE as a whole.

As in the rest of the UAE, men outnumber women, but due to a larger percentage of UAE nationals, the gender imbalance in RAK is not quite as extreme as it is in most of the other emirates, particularly Dubai.
